Better Business Cases

Canterbury Earthquake Recover (CER) are adopting the Better Business Model. Here is how they are using the 5 case model.

As part of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, CERA is adopting the Better Business Case model to consider projects and programmes requiring Crown investment in whole or part.
The Better Business Case model is a requirement in central government and is used to evaluate funding proposals where Cabinet approval is required. Better Business Case provides:
  1. Decision makers with a structured framework to consider programmes or projects; and
  2. Business case writers and managers clarity over expectations.
The Better Business Case process is based on good practice from the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand which has been modified for the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery. Experience has shown that Better Business Case can help ensure:
  1. Greater value through engagement and collaboration by stakeholders (particularly in a workshop environment);
  2. Transparency and a consistent approach to investment decisions;
  3. Programmes and projects are coordinated and implemented effectively and successfully.
Better Business Case supports organisations to develop a compelling case for funding and importantly, ensure best value from the selected option. These principles will be critical to a timely and effective recovery.

ELS get accredited by APMG

First Lean Six Sigma Training Organisation Accredited by APMG

ELS Business Training has announced it has become the first Accredited Training Organisation to become accredited for APMG's new Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.

Cath Convery, CEO of ELS said, "There are very few academic certifications which recognise Lean Six Sigma to national standards.  We were delighted when APMG developed this course as we believe Lean principles are becoming very popular and relevant to all kinds of organisations."

Lean Six Sigma is a management approach to business performance improvement that has blended the two individual specialisms of Lean and Six Sigma. While Lean focuses on speed, efficiency and taking waste out of a process, Six Sigma focuses on being effective and eliminating errors. Together they can greatly improve an organization's performance by providing a structured approach to resolving problems.

Richard Pharro, CEO of APMG, the certification's awarding body said, "APMG is committed to bringing new products to market that suit the needs of professional people working in all kinds of disciplines. We are delighted that ELS has seen the market for Lean Six Sigma grow and we expect in time that this certification will prove to be extremely popular."

APMG is launching its new Facilitation guidance and qualification scheme at Churchill War Rooms in London on  28th February 2013 from 2.30pm to 5pm.

Facilitation has never been as important as organisations need to gain buy-in and engagement in tackling organisational issues and in their change programmes. Facilitation provides a sound approach to achieving key strategic goals, encouraging participation, achieving continuous improvement and tackling organisational problems.

Tony Mann, the author of: Facilitation – an art, science, skill or all three and chief examiner, will introduce the new guide.  Cath Convey of Explosive Learning, and member of the examining panel, will share her experience of why facilitation skills are so important.

There will be an opportunity to try out some of the key principles, meet the specialist training providers who can explain the APMG course in more detail, network with other delegates and ask questions about Facilitation. We believe this skill is fundamental for all managers. Good facilitation skills will enhance your organization's productivity, enable effective problem solving and increase engagement, making successful outcomes much more likely.
